Changelog
Notable changes to the VMYard API, CLI, SDKs, and console.
VMYard is in private beta. Entries appear here as changes ship; the API reference always reflects the current OpenAPI document (version 1.0.0).
October 2026
Files
- The console's Files tab is now a live file browser for
/work: a tree with sizes and each entry's share of the total, fuzzy search, Name / Size sorting, keyboard navigation, and actions to open, download (files, or folders as.tar.gz), upload into a folder, create a file, and copy a path. The latest snapshot shows above the tree with a download. Writing, reading, and uploading by path still work underneath.
Desktop
- Send keys adds a Workspaces group: switch to workspace 1-4, next or previous workspace, and open the launcher, for shortcuts the browser or your computer doesn't pass through.
- The desktop opens full page in a new browser tab, from Open in new tab on the Desktop tab, the machine overview, or the Machines row menu. It connects on arrival, scales to fit, and keeps its controls on a collapsible handle at the left edge.
- Browser mode shows only the machine's web browser, where the host supports it.
- The Machines row menu adds Desktop, Browser, Terminal, Files, and Copy SSH; Desktop and Browser say "(Machine is not up)" while a machine is stopped.
- Desktop: a machine's graphical desktop over VNC in the console's new Desktop tab, with view-only, scale-to-fit or 1:1, resize-to-window, full screen, Send keys (Ctrl+Alt+Del and more), clipboard in both directions, and automatic reconnects. Single-use tickets authorize it; there is no VNC password, and the console records nothing. Machines whose image has no desktop yet say so.
Documentation
- Published these docs: quickstart, concepts, guides, SDK and CLI references, a generated API reference,
/llms.txt,/llms-full.txt, and a Markdown version of every page.
Available in the beta
- Machines: create, list, rename, start, stop, restart, and delete, with auto-stop and setup scripts.
- Commands with streamed output, background commands with logs, and file transfer up to 32 MiB.
- Ports as public or token-protected HTTPS URLs, and SSH through a gateway.
- An interactive web terminal in the console, also reachable over a WebSocket with an API key.
- API keys with presets, browser sign-in (GitHub, Google, email codes), and CLI device login.
- Environments: encrypted, versioned variables and secret files applied to machines, with upgrades and audited reveals.
- Signed lifecycle webhooks.
- Command history with search and stored stdout and stderr, and email alerts with per-member preferences.
- Per-second metering, prepaid trial, plans, and credits, with spend caps and limits.
- The
vyCLI and the TypeScript and Python SDKs (not yet published to npm or PyPI).
Machine metrics
- Machine metrics: CPU, memory, disk, disk I/O, and network for every machine, in the machine list and as one-minute or live charts on its overview.
- The
disk_almost_fullanddisk_fullemail alerts are now sent.
Snapshots, templates, fork, and organizations
- Snapshots: push a stopped machine as a warm or cold snapshot; long stops move down the tiers on their own.
- Templates: save a stopped machine by name and create machines from it.
- Fork and restore: copy a running machine at one instant, or restore a snapshot, as a new machine.
snapshot.readyandtemplate.readywebhooks.- Organizations by name: every account gets a personal organization, and signed-in users create and rename their own.
- Machine search, state filter, sort, and order run on the server across the whole organization.
Billing: sizes, plans, trial, and automatic refill
- Sizes and prices:
GET /v1/plansreports each plan'ssize(small, default, large, xlarge). The console's create page picks a size for the chosen region with its resources and hourly price, and shows which sizes a trial can't use. - Cancel a plan or end the trial: cancel a plan at the end of its period and keep it again before then (
plan.cancel_at_period_end), end the trial early (trial.ended_at), or end it with a plan checkout (end_trial). - Automatic refill: buy credit packs when the balance drops below a threshold, up to a monthly cap, with the new
auto_refill_failedemail alert.
Automatic snapshots and bulk deletes
- Automatic snapshots: running KVM machines are captured every 5 minutes by default, keeping the newest 10; manual snapshots, tier-policy snapshots, and templates are never pruned.
- Machines report
latest_snapshot, so the machine list and overview show how fresh each machine's copy is. - Delete several snapshots by ID, or all of a machine's (optionally one source's), with a result for each. The console's Snapshots tab filters by source and selects snapshots to delete.
Independent status page
- An independent status page that runs on its own host, separate from the console and the API, so it stays up when they are down. It checks each component from outside, shows its recent check history and state changes, lists incidents and maintenance, and serves the same data as
status.json. - The console's footer and Support page link to it when your deployment runs one.
Idle sleep
- Idle sleep: turn it on per machine (
idle_sleep_after_seconds, 5 minutes to 24 hours; off by default) and VMYard stops a running machine once it has shown no activity for that long. Missing or stale metrics never count as idle. - Machines report
idle_sleep_after_seconds,idle_since,idle_sleep_at, andlast_active_at. The console counts down to sleep in the machine list and on the overview, and shows when the machine was last active. - Stop operations and
machine.stoppedwebhooks carrystop_reason(api,auto_stop,billing, oridle_sleep); the console labels it, for example "Stopped: idle". - The opt-in
idle_sleepemail alert.
Internet access, IPv6, and restarts
- Internet access and IPv6: choose a machine's egress policy,
internetornone, when you create it (network: {egress}; leave it out for the host's default) and change it later withPUT /v1/machines/{id}/network, anetwork_setoperation. Machines reportnetwork, with a publicipv6_addresson hosts that route IPv6 to their machines. Choosing needs the permission to create machines. - Internet access is the public internet only: private and metadata ranges, the host, and other machines stay blocked, port 25 is blocked, and each machine has its own rate and bandwidth limits. A host's operator can turn internet access off.
- Breaking: the plan catalog's
network_access.network_mode(private_only) is gone;network_access.egress_optionslists the policies a plan offers. - Restart is one operation that reboots the machine in place without stopping it, on Docker hosts too. A host that can't restart machines yet ends it
failedwithrestart_unsupported, and the machine keeps running. - The console's create page offers Internet access, the Network tab shows and changes it with the IPv6 address, and Restart is available for Docker machines.
